Propolis Tincture
Propolis is produced by bees, but they make use of resins from trees, plus pollen, and some of their saliva to make the propolis. It is what the bees use themselves to protect their own hive from infection. It has natural antibiotic and antifungal properties. It is not a placebo, but being a natural product, it naturally varies in potency, depending on where the bees have been visiting, and also how each brand processes it (some are more watered down than others). No, its not a wonderful supplement that claims to change your life (it shouldn't be promoted this way), but it can be useful for some specific conditions.
In places like Japan propolis is very popular to take to fight against colds. It isn't so well known or used in the west, but that is slowly changing. It is very good for sore throats, an old beekeepers trick is to suck on a piece of propolis to aid a sore throat.
The antifungal properties in propolis are also quite a good treatment for things such as atheletes foot. If you have a tincture that contains an alcohol base (as many of them will), apply some over the affected area, then allow the alcohol to evaporate, and you will be left with a 'caking' of propolis to treat the fungal infection.
